Shaping the Land: Summit’s Landscape Framework Takes Form
Site work at Summit By Olson Kundig continues to advance, with progress underway on the landscape and retaining wall framework that defines the Camelback Mountain facing residences.
The key focus of this phase is the construction of the retaining walls designed by our architect and landscape teams to read as an extension of the mountain itself. Rather than appearing as a structural necessity, the walls are being shaped, stepped, and finished with native stone and desert materials that mirror the existing terrain and vegetation of Camelback Mountain. This approach allows the landform to settle naturally into its surroundings, creating a sense of continuity between the architecture and the desert landscape.
This similar strategy was successfully implemented at our mountainside building, where the finished retaining walls ultimately enhanced both the setting and the overall sense of place. We expect the same outcome here which will be an environment that feels less constructed and more discovered.
We look forward to continuing to share updates as the Summit Residences takes shape.
